Faith is Pointed toward the Future

Happy New Year! As we look forward to a new year, we hope you find happiness and joy and that you have learned from your journey through the last year.

"As a new year begins and we try to benefit from a proper view of what has gone before, I plead with you not to dwell on days now gone nor to yearn vainly for yesterdays, however good those days may have been. The past is to be learned from not lived in. We look back to claim the embers from glowing experiences but not the ashes. And when we have learned what we need to learn and have brought with us the best that we have experienced, then we look ahead and remember that faith is always pointed toward the future. Faith always has to do with blessings and truths and events that will yet be efficacious in our lives."

  1. I am so glad that we have a prophet and 12 apostles on the earth at this time. The phrase Elder Holland uses which says, "The past is to be learned from and not lived in" is some of the most sound advice that I can take away from each year. Sometimes I question myself on whether or not I have even improved at all from the previous year, but this prophetic advice shows me that faith is every looking to the future to better ourselves.

  2. Satan is the only winners when we dwell on the past. The Atonement is the greatest gift of all, and it is full of hope and beauty as we move forward with faith.
Great thought to start out the New Year!

  3. One of the crowning characteristics of Christ's church is it's focus on His Atonement. It is what makes possible the hope that we all may have of a bright future if we repent of our sins.

  4. This is an amazing quote and actually is exactly what I've been needing to hear. I do tend to live in the past and it is important to remember that "faith is always pointed toward the future". We shouldn't beat ourselves up if we didn't meet the goals we made last year but we can look forward with faith and try to do better this year.
