Baptism

I'd like to explain a little bit about baptism.  God set forth a commandment that we all must be baptized in order to gain eternal life.  Through baptism we will receive forgiveness for our sins.  Because of Christ's atonement everyone can repent, be baptized, and be healed from any guilt, sorrow or shame we hold onto.

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." - John 3:5

One must be baptized by someone holding the priesthood.  The priesthood is a power and an authority to act in Gods name.  This is the same power that John the Baptist held.

This scripture explains that we must be baptized to enter Gods kingdom, but it also mentions that we must be born of the spirit.  For a baptism to be complete one must receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  This is done by priesthood holders laying hands on the head of the one who was baptized and giving a special blessing.  When someone receives the Gift of the Holy Ghost through a blessing given by one holding the priesthood, the Holy Ghost will now reside with them.  Rather than feeling the Spirit or the Holy Ghost only when praying or reading the scriptures, those who are Baptized will now always have the Holy Ghost with them.

The Holy Ghost has comforted me in difficult times.  It has confirmed to me that this is Gods church.  The best way I can describe the Holy Ghost is an overwhelming feeling of peaceful love.

I know that through Christ's atonement we can be made clean.  I know that if you come to know that Christ is your savior, repent and are baptized you will be cleansed of guilt and you will have more joy and happiness in your life.

  1. I am so grateful for the Priesthood in my life. For the saving ordinances like baptism. And for the gift of the Holy Ghost. It's such a blessing in my life to have the Holy Ghost with me at all times.

  2. I was able to witness my niece take the step into baptism over the weekend. It is such a wonderful experience watching others make the same covenant that I did at 8 years old. It brings such peace knowing that she will have the Gift of the the Holy Ghost now to guide her in her life. I greatly anticipate for my other nieces and nephews to take the name of Christ upon themselves as well and receiving the constant companion of the Holy Ghost and continue to make more covenants that will bring happiness to their lives, much as it has for me.

  3. Great article on baptism. What an important covenant to learn about. Because of my baptismal covenant, I have been able to draw closer to God and make wiser decisions in my life. The strength and knowledge I receive through the Holy Ghost helps me accomplish great and hard tasks in my life. I am eternally grateful for His companionship.

  4. Thanks for the article on baptism. I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity to be baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. I'll never forget the powerful feeling of peace that I had as soon as I came up out of the water.

  5. Baptism is such a beautiful ordinance and I love seeing the change brought about in people's lives after they get baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. I have a close family friend who was baptized when they were a teenager and it was really powerful to see how this ordinance changed their life and brought them closer to God.
