My Hero - My Father.....

With Father’s Day fast approaching it gives me pause to reflect on my own Father.  My dad passed away almost 11 years ago, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don’t wish I could speak with him.  I miss his advice, his straight forward way of looking at a problem and being able to fix it.  My dad was a great example of hard work and hard service.  He worked hard for his family every day, and he served diligently for his Heavenly Father.  Because of my Dad, I learned how to be a good husband and father to my family.  If there is one attribute that I owe to my dad it is the ability to work hard at things, to never give in or give up.

But also I owe my dad so much more than my work ethic.  He was a great priesthood holder, honoring his priesthood through his service.  Some of my earliest memories are of my father dragging me along as we went to a widow’s home to repair something that was broken.  He always had time, even if he didn't; to help someone in need.  He also wasn't afraid to bless his family with our Heavenly Father’s priesthood.  He was always ready and willing to give us blessings, using his priesthood power to enrich our lives.  I owe my father so much, more than I could ever put into mere words.  Dad, I Love You and Miss You…… but I also know that you will be my father for eternity.

The following video expresses my feeling for my own father and my feelings that I have for my Heavenly Father.  How has your Father impacted your life?

  1. I have also been very blessed to have a loving father guide me and direct me in the things that are good and right in this world. And I am especially blessed to have a loving husband who is the best father for our children. Because of these good men in my life, I can see that my Father in Heaven is loving and kind and also guiding me to things that are good and right.

  2. This is an excellent video. I reminds me so much of the sentiments that have been expressed by my own husband. Everything he does is for the betterment of his family. I am so grateful for being able to have him be my husband and father to my son. I know that he only wants what is best for us, just like our Heavenly Father. I am so thankful to be able to have such a sound understanding of our purpose here on this earth and to have a companion who is there with me as well to teach, guide, and love the precious spirit that Heavenly Father has chosen to send to us. I truly couldn't ask for more.

  3. I love the last quote in the video. God could have asked us to address him as something prestigious and mighty, but he asks us to address him with such an intimate word as "Father".

  4. The older I get the more I realize how much my dad has and is doing for others around him. My dad has always been generous in helping his siblings. They haven't been as blessed as he is financially or emotionally. Instead of being prideful, my dad has lent and given a lot of time and money to help his siblings through their trials. I married a man who is a hard worker and who is also caring because those were the main characteristics that I loved about both my earthly father and my Heavenly Father.
