The Atonement: Lifting Burdens

"And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord." (Mosiah 24:15)

In my lifetime I have learned that we all carry burdens that weigh us down like rocks threatening to squash us like bugs. I have also learned that the only true way to feel that burden lightened, to feel strong and capable of enduring is through the Lord Jesus Christ's Atonement. He suffered not only for our sins but for our physical pains, our doubts, our fears and regrets. Every burden we carry he has felt and taken upon his back. There have been times in my life where my burdens have felt overwhelming and life has seemed too heavy and frightening. Looking back I have realized why I was so weighed down; I was relying on myself when I should have been relying on the Lord. Once I asked him for help I could feel the burdens lift, become lighter and as I kept relying on him more and more I became stronger and the burden became light through Him. The burdens we feel are all part of our trials and through Jesus Christ we grow and become stronger through them. Nothing is impossible through the Lord and I know that if we have faith and trust in him he will lift our hearts and lighten the load.

"He can reach out, touch, succor, heal, and strengthen us to be more than we could ever be and help us to do that which we could never do relying only upon our own power. Indeed, His yoke is easy and His burden light."-Elder David A. Bednar

  1. I love that my Savior can help me through any trial, he makes my burdens light.

  2. Thank you for the wonderful reminder that our Savior is there for us and will help to make our burdens light! When I feel my burdens are too heavy to bear, I can remember that Jesus Christ is there, always, to help me.

  3. I appreciate that reminder that we don't have to go through this life alone. Especially bearing our burdens alone. I know...........I know because I have experienced His healing power in my behalf throughout my life. He lives, loves and cares deeply for each of us regardless of who we are.

  4. I love that quote from Elder Bednar. It doesn't say that our lives will become easier, instead he tells us that when we rely on our Savior, Jesus Christ will bear up our burdens so that the burdens become light to us. I know this to be true. When I am going through difficult times, I realize when I pray to my Heavenly Father and rely on my Savior, I somehow have more energy and stamina to bear through my trials and hardships. Life is hard, but we don't need to carry its weight on our shoulders alone. I love this knowledge and am grateful for my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for this beautiful gift. Thanks for the post!
