“For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” - Moses 1:39
God’s desires for us, His children, are that we are happy and have eternal joy. His whole purpose is that me may have eternal life. Christ’s atonement is central to His plan for us to live eternally. Because of the atonement of Christ, His personal suffering for each of us, we may have the hope for living eternally with him and with our family in peace and happiness. And it is this hope that can give us joy in life right now.
Paul was imprisoned, living in very poor conditions when he wrote this, “… For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:11-13). No matter what condition you are in you can turn to Christ for joy and happiness. Whether you feel lonely in need of comfort, you feel physical pain, you feel stressed because of daily tasks, or you are mourning the loss of a loved one, you can receive love and relief from Christ your Savior, because of His atonement.
There are times in our lives where we may be happy, confident, and we feel stable and in control of our lives. Then there are times of sadness, weakness, and instability. The atonement of Christ gives us the hope that sustains us through despair.
