Who am I?

With spring almost here, we've witnessed another cycle of seasons. We've watched nature grow and prosper, we watched them wither and die, and now we will once again watch them grow. Watching little critters struggle through their lives just to survive another winter makes me stop and wonder why I am struggling through every day trials just to face another. There must be a reason to all of our long-suffering-a reason to overcome and survive the tough trials of our lives. What is this reason? Click on the picture below for a short video made by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It describes a similarity between life and watching a play (sorry that it is a bit outdated in what the actors wear, but the truth never changes so the message still stands true ^^). My article refers to the specific section of this video: from 1:48-5:58.

As outlined in the video, we can’t understand who we are without understanding who we were and who we are meant to become. By studying scriptures and other words of God, we can better understand who we were and who we are meant to become to gain a better understanding of who we are.

Reading the scriptures and drawing closer to my Heavenly Father has shown me that I was a daughter of God in the premortal life. In the premortal life, Satan and Jesus Christ proposed two plans. In short, those who chose Satan’s plan was cast out while those who chose Heavenly Father’s and Jesus Christ’s plan was sent to earth to receive a body.

That means every single person born on earth has chosen God’s plan for themselves already. We are sons and daughters of our loving Heavenly Father. We are divine beings destined to become like our Father. That is why we strive to overcome our daily trials and to be a better friend, a family member, and a better disciple of our Heavenly Father. This is why we continue fighting to live day after day no matter how hard life can get.
I hope you will one day find out for yourself your divine worth as a child of God. I hope that you will search the scriptures to find out who you were, who you are destined to become and, most of all, who you are. With this knowledge, you will find greater happiness, strength and motivation.

I hope you have felt God’s love for you today. He is your Heavenly Father. He wants you to succeed in all that is good and righteous. He will help you both in temporal and in spiritual things if you will take the time to ask for His divine help. I know this to be true through my many personal experiences. You are and will forever be loved.

Why am I here?

So many people ask the question, “Why am I here on the Earth?” It’s a question I love to ponder! I believe we lived with our loving Father in Heaven before we came to this Earth. When we lived there, we took part in a great meeting. At that meeting our Heavenly Father presented a plan - a plan of eternal happiness. His plan was to have us, as spirits come to Earth, receive a body and also become part of a family. In a mortal existence, we would be able to experience a mortal life, to learn and grow and progress toward an eternal life. It would be a time that we could prove ourselves, make the choice to learn of Jesus Christ and follow Him and prepare ourselves to be worthy of that eternal life. And the best part, if we prove ourselves in the mortal existence, we would live forever in the presence of God and also live with our families throughout eternity. We were so excited about this plan! Our Father in Heaven gave us the choice of accepting this plan or not. I believe that everyone accepted this plan because we all received our mortal bodies.

Our wise and loving Father has given us the privilege of being tested and strengthened through our trials. And He gives us trials that are specific to us and what we need to learn and grow. After we die, we will see our families and our Savior, Jesus Christ. We will then be judged and receive the Kingdom of Glory that we have earned.

I am so grateful for the honor to be on this earth. When things get difficult and I am being tested, I try to ask myself, “What is my Heavenly Father trying to teach me?” Those trials are still difficult, but I know without a doubt that my Father loves me enough to make me stronger and wants me to learn all I need to learn so I can return to Him.
